July STARS and STRIPES Challenge by Wendy

Here is another layout created for the STARS and STRIPES challenge of the month, this time by designer Wendy C :) Here is what she would like us to know!

I had a lot of fun playing with this challenge! I used the Glory collection from Authentique. The banner was made with some chipboard pieces that were inked, Stickles and tied together with twine.

The title is a mix of alphas from the stash. It's so hard for me to mix fonts and colors, but I have to admit, I like the way this turned out.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Summer! Stay cool!

July STARS and STRIPES by Marie

Hey Everyone! The month is almost over so if you would like to play in our Stars and Stripes please go here and read up :) In the meantime here is something from DT Member Marie and what she would like to share
:)

When I saw this months' project, I knew I just had to use my DCWV Stack 8! They had the perfect coordinating papers! I loved the stars and stripes they have in Red, White, and Blue and thought it would be perfect for July's challenge!! I created a 4th of July themed card, but it can be used for any occasion. It can be a Thank You card or Congratulations or Just Because!! My second project is the 4th of July layout of my son! He's a little too young for fireworks, so this year I bought him balloons!

For both projects, I kept with the stars/stripes theme, trying to keep it similar to the American flag.

July STARS and STRIPES Challenge by Elizabeth

Here is the challenge by Elizabeth for the month! Want to play too? Go here!

Here in my wee corner of Scotland we don’t celebrate anything with the stars and stripes, however we did see lots of red, white and blue when we were on holiday a month ago. The Diamond Jubilee celebrations were still much in evidence and I just had to take a photo of this delightful shop window.

I chose to make this A4 in size – approx 11” x 8” for a change. The papers used are from the Best of British Paper Collection which was issued with a copy of Crafts Beautiful magazine. The bunting was cut out one-by-one and positioned across the top. The title is the name of the shop – the photo has been cropped and matted on red cardstock.

All the embellishments came with the collection except the flowers which I made by punching out shapes, crumpling them up to distress them a little, and adding a tiny pearl to the centre.

I still haven’t got to grips with the Yahoo thing ... although I have managed to read all the emails so I do know what the challenges are for the coming months and, yes, I do know that the next deadline is 24 July ... which is why I’ve reverted to email for now.

I will try to follow your instructions tomorrow to see if I can join the 21st century J

Kind regards

Elizabeth

Welcome Design Team Member of the Month...

CHARLOTTE!

As I get to know all of the designers here at SOS I thought it would be a great project to highlight one per month so you too can learn more!!! For this month I chose Charlotte because of her awesome project she submitted right here:

Here is a link if you would like to go back and read up on her layout too :)

Let's take a small peek into her world today and see what she has to share!

Deb♥

My name is Charlotte and I live in Alberta, Canada. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we were blessed to have 3 girls together. I am a grandmother to one adorable little guy and will have another little grandbaby to cuddle soon! I find great joy and contentment in scrapbooking the memories my family makes together. It is a wonderful hobby and one that is slowly taking over my house! LOL! I work on several albums at one time as I do one for each of the girls and then several for myself. Most of my layouts focus on family as that is what I love to scrap the best! I have recently really gotten into photography an

d am enjoying that hobby as well. I would like to devote more time to that pursuit. When I'm not busy with all of that, I like to read and I also find some time to work part time in the field of education! I love meeting new "scrappy" friends! My blog can be found at http://scrapsational-char.blogspot.ca/ and I would love for you to visit!

July STARS and STRIPES Challenge by Ange

Here is a new layout for the July STARS and STRIPES Challenge, today it is brought by DT Member Ange! We want to see yours too! Come by here for details and let's see how you translate the challenge :)

For July the Scrap Our Stash challenge is Stars and Stripes, which for many means 4th of July, freedom and fireworks, but I chose to go literally. :)

You know at 2 you'd think that you could get a few good shots that aren't posed, but these faces seem to be Jayse's favorites when he sees the camera coming.

I love this star paper but hated the idea of covering some of those fun shooting stars, so I cut around them in the areas I needed with my craft knife.

For my stripes I used patterned paper. Why not right? It has all those fun stripes all fixed up nice for you already, so I just cut the section I wanted to use and attached it to my lo.

Add a little bit of tape, embellies, doodles, ink, name, date and warning to the world and you have a fun little layout ready for the album. :)Ange

July STARS and STRIPES by Kathryn

Hi Everyone, Design Team Member Kathryn has a new layout to show us today for the STARS and STRIPES challenge. Here ya go!

Hello everyone, it’s been a while since I was on the blog, but I’m hoping to find some more time to have a good look at everyone’s projects this month! My Stars and Stripes layout is of my daughter, Emma, on a pony ride at a fair last summer. The photo is not brilliant, it was taken on my phone, but it’s a lovely memory to share. Her daddy was leading her up and down, an experience for him as well as he’s not used to horses!

The papers are Bo-Bunny and I’ve raised the stars and the banners on pinflair glue to create a bit of depth around the photo. You can just make out feint stripes I think under the picture in a starburst pattern. My first layout in a long time with no flowers or butterflies on it! Have a good day!

July STARS and STRIPES by Sarah

Design team member Sarah has submitted this for our July STARS and STRIPES Challenge. You can play too! Go here for all the details :)

Decided to dig into the Steampunk photos taken by the very talented Robert Allard: http://raphotography.smugmug.com last March. For some reason this photo came to mind first when I saw the topic. *kabang!* lol
I loooooove this picture of all four of my boy all set and ready to fight evil daemons!

The base paper is Tim Holtz which is most of the 'stripes' for this layout. Placed the picture on the page, arranging it so the lines were coming out in a 'burst' and drew a light pencil line around the photo for a guide. Then I stamped a few gear with the Gel-a-tins: Shifting Gears set, using Gold ink and then heat embossing them in Silver. The guide meant I wasn't stamping where it wouldn't be seen: So I didn't waste any supplies or energy.
Then I took both Gold and Silver Sharpies and drew some 'ray' lines coming out, following in the same directions the stripes were already going.
Next I prepared the photo by placing it on a Light Yellow piece of Mulberry Paper, wetting around the photo, careful not to get the photo itself wet since it's a printer photo and would smudge and then tearing the paper... pulled it off in small bits and pieces to get it really long and raggedy. Then I inked the edges in Bright Yellow ink. I repeated the with Pale Orange Mulberry Paper and Bright Orange ink a little bigger than the Yellow. Attached them to the back of the picture so it looks like the boys are coming out in a Fire-Burst!
The Silver Gears were punched out with a Stampin' Up! Punch and the Copper Stars were all hand cut out using an Exacto knife from DCWV Metallic Stack Paper... yummy paper I've been hoarding. Arranged these and glued them on, then added a sprinkling of Me & My Big Ideas Icons bling-age in Red, Yellow and Orange.
The last step was cutting a My Mind's Eye rub-on title in half... used both halves over top the photo itself and added a few stick-on pearls.
I'm super-duper pleased with how this page turned out AND it's been 'Boy Approved' with an "Awe Cool Mum!" "Neato!" and "WOW!" from the crew. (The eldest nodded, that's as good as you get from the teenager now... lol)

It's Friday! Time for Frugality!

I have been downsizing my scrapbook supplies a lot! So as I have been doing so I consider that there are things that I need to keep and things I don't! Here is a tip that I think is helpful when you are using glue. If you do not want to get glue all over your table save the backs of paper pads. The cardboard will cover your work space and you can throw it out when you are done!

Happy Friday!

Design Team Member, Tammy has submitted this layout for our July STARS and STRIPES Challenge. We hope you will play along too! Go here for details!

These are photos of my oldest daughter on her first 4th of July. These pictures are from 2005! She had a lot of fun and didn't even cry when the fireworks went off (in fact I believe she fell asleep!) I used the new Echo Park mini line 4th of July for my LO as well as a modified Allison Davis sketch (I love her sketches.) Now it's your turn to play in our July Stars and Stripes challenge!

July STARS and STRIPES by Amy

Reader, Amy has submitted a layout for our July STARS and STRIPES challenge! Here is what she said about it and her page :)

Although both of my boys have left very dear footprints on my heart, my youngest sons' heart surgery at the beginning of the year really stands out.
He really surprised me in every way. His surgery went perfect and his recovery went just as well! Within 6 days of surgery he was up and running around! I had no idea this strong little boy was capable of such a miracle! Thank You Lord!
I hadn't thought about it like this until I seen the challenge I mentioned above but the footprints left by the miracle of life are firmly placed in my heart.

I thought the layout that I made after his recovery really fit with my "footprints". (Sorry for the glare!)

Thanks for checkin me out! =)
Happy Scrappin!!

July STARS and STRIPES by Wendy

Design team member Wendy has created this for our July STARS and STRIPES challenge:

I realized I really don’t have much for stars at all! So for my layout I opted to use striped paper (I’ve got plenty of that!) and embellish with some chipboard. The paper was busy enough that I didn't need to add much to have a finished page. For details visit My Scrapbooking Blog.

Now it's your turn! Come play along by reading the details
here . Hope to see you!

July STARS and STRIPES by Karen

Design team member Karen has submitted this for our July Stars and Stipes challenge:

Being in the UK Stars and Stripes doesn't have the same meaning ( I could have done great things with a red/white/ blue thing this year ) so I used this picture of my oldest two in some striped t0 shirts for a Stars in Stripes LO.

July STARS and STRIPES by Debbie

Design team member Debbie has submitted this for our July STARS and STRIPES Challenge:

Hi there,
Living in Southern Arizona during the 4th of July can be very hot. We don't go out and see the fireworks very often because it's usually too miserable. Once in awhile we try to sneak away and go to a cooler climate for our anniversary which is July 1st. In 1998, we were in San Diego, CA for the 4th, and I had these photos from our trip. I tried to use different shades of red, white and blue that aren't your typical patriotic color scheme. I added black into the mix to help make the firework photos pop.

July STARS and STRIPES by Haley

Design team member Haley has submitted this for our July challenge:

For my July submission, I dug deep into my stash! First, my goal this summer is to get my scrapbooks caught up and all the pages I've made in actual albums. These pictures are from when my now-11-year-old was 15 months old! I used the current Superhero paper pack and American Celebration stamp set along with the retired Shining Star stamp set (all from Close To My Heart). I used some old favorite stamping techniques (random stamping and rock 'n rolling) along with a new idea: the star border cutout. The embellishments are also a mix of old (gold star brads) and new (sparkles). You can see close ups of the pages and more info about the techniques on my blog (http://inkyscrapper.blogspot.com).

Inky hugs,
Haley

July STARS and STRIPES by Tamara

Design Team member Tamara has submitted this for the STARS and STRIPES challenge this month:

My stash is full of all kinds of red, white and blue. Perfect for some fireworks pics that were taken right in our own backyard. One of the benefits of living close to city hall. I used the back side of some old Flower pattern paper from SEI. The soft dots made a great background. I just added some blue bakers twine around my pics, added a July sticker, some SU ribbon, colored buttons and Pressed petals chipboard stars. I didn't have the right shade of red for my Wow so I painted http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifthe letters white. Added a tassel at the top to look like a firecracker and roughed up the edges to finish up my layout.

Now it's your turn to play! If you go here it will explain the details :)
